Admittance to clean water and adequate sanitation facilities are precarious in tackling factors of human survival, especially given the prevalence of diarrhoea and waterborne diseases and the role of sanitary health practices. Diarrhoea and cholera among other water borne illnesses, are a threat in both urban and rural areas due to inadequate facilities.
Copperbelt Development Foundation Limited recognizes the need to supplement efforts of government and other private players in improving access to clean water and adequate sanitation services in rural areas and informal settlements, in Educational and Health institutions.
Through a strong partnership with local government and other partners, such as implementing NGOs, CDFL is working to support Zambia achieve MDG targets for water and sanitation. This will help reduce the number of people without access to clean water and sanitation on the Copperbelt & Shibuyunji districts (formerly part of Mumbwa), while emphasizing the importance of environmental management to protect food supplies and water resources.
